WALKING FOR FITNESS IN JAPAN

The"Walking for Fitness" group usually walk in Daisy Hill Forest,  however they sometimes do more adventurous walks in Australia and overseas. In October four members of our "Walking for Fitness" group and a friend walked part of the Henro Pilgrimage Trail on the island of Shikoku. They visited 29 of the 88 temples, climbed the rugged mountains, traversed the country-side and some days with the threat of a typhoon they walked in the wind and rain. They also spent three nights in Kyoto.

To find their way they followed the Henro signs.

 They walked by manicured gardens,

  through the back streets and

across the fields.

They had accommodation in many temples.

 Food was always presented artistically

Temples were mostly high up on the mountain tops.

On the first week they climbed the mountains to arrive at the temples.

In the island's interior they walked across a rope bridge and

 visited a restored Samurai house.

They had a get together with friends from Kyoto.

They laughed at the emergency equipment in their room on the 2nd floor. Hook the clip on the railing and climb down.

On their return home they said that they felt far more spiritual after following the Buddhist tenants:
NO ANGER
NO GREED
NO FOOLISHNESS
