FIRST DAY OF WINTER SCHOOL 2014

On the first day of Winter School there was a tour of the State Library followed by the Keynote Address by Professor Roly Sussex OAM. Both were excellent sessions.

Here are some photos from these sessions.

Over 50 U3A members were divided into three groups and taken on a tour of all the floors of the State Library by a guide.

The guide discussed the building architecture and functionality, artworks and history of collections.

Different Dewey numbers are allocated to different floor levels.

There are plenty of areas for research and study with free WIFI and access to computers throughout the library.

The State Library houses one of the most comprehensive design collections from fashion to Built Environment.

The Red Box overlooking the river and city is a quiet place for reading or just thinking.

Many members were impressed with the facilities available and so applied for a library card.

Anne Douglas the coordinator of Winter School, introduces the chief librarian to open the Winter School and the keynote speaker in the State Library Auditorium.

Well known speaker, radio personality and professor of languages, Roly Sussex entertained us with a talk on life after retirement, the continuing evolution of language and some great tips on interesting websites.

Brisbane U3A President, Marilyn Wagland, thanked Roly for an excellent presentation.
