Check out Nerida Day's exciting acting class. They meet on Thursdays between 10.30am and 12,30pm at Cleremont Resort, Park Ridge.

They might be U3A students at the moment but who knows what it might lead to. You might see some faces on Australian Drama series one day.

Vale Raymond Jenkins

It is with sadness that we have to inform U3A members that Ray Jenkins, the tutor of the Indonesian class here at Logan has passed away last Sunday. Ray has been fighting his illness for some time, but he was a fighter and has kept going much longer than expected.

The Indonesian class have written a piece on Ray and what he meant to them:

Ray, Pak Ray, Guru Kami - Ray was many things to us all - on behalf of Ray's Indonesian Class we would like to pen a few words:

Ray's presentations to our class were always interesting, surprising and entertaining.  Apart from the textbook "stuff" like grammar, vocabulary and comprehension, we never knew what treat he would have in store for us - one week it would be music - dangdut, gamelin, classical - next it could be dance or the benefits of Medical Qigong, for example - all instructed in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) and accompanied by copious notes lovingly prepared by Ray.    Even on the Sunday that he went into hospital Ray sent us an e-mail.  Attached to that e-mail were three songs, all meticulously translated into Indonesian - this Semester's cultural treat.

It became quickly obvious to us - his Indonesian students - that Ray was a very special and unique individual - but mostly what shone ever so brightly was his love of his family, followed closely by his love of all things Indonesian and of course, his music.  Ray was also a very keen walker, walking with the U3A's "Walking for Fitness Group" until very recently.  He was 100% committed to all his U3A activities until the very end.

Ray will be sadly missed, never forgotten, and will always have a special place in our hearts.

God bless you, Pak.  Rest in peace.

There will be a memorial service on Monday 8 May at St Marks Uniting Church at Mt Gravatt.
Time to be advised.

Ray has donated his body to Medical Research at QUT.
